Moms are welcome to live with us in our homes until baby turns 1 year old. We do not house children above one year in our maternity homes. If mom has older children, they are in the care of a loving relative or are part of a DCS case that we can work with mom to reunify.

Description

Maggie’s Place offers a caring support system and source of hope to women experiencing homelessness during the critical time of pregnancy and baby’s first year. We provide a nurturing and stable home, nutritious food, infant supplies, access to medical care, and programs that are trauma informed, focused on building resiliency and strengthening families.

Maggie’s Place uses a Trauma Informed Care approach to provide foundational building blocks for development, learning, and health throughout a person’s lifetime.

A recent study of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), found that children who experience trauma have long-term impacts to well-being and functioning. The cycle of violence, generational poverty and abuse, homelessness, substance abuse, incarceration, perpetration and victimization of violence are all related to ACE’s. Strategies such as identification and assessment, reducing risk and exposure and nurturing resiliency and skill building are effective interventions. Maggie’s Place provides families support through the following programs:

Safe, secure housing for pregnant women and their infants
Transitional housing for women to reunify with their older children
Affordable housing for women who are ready to transition to living independently
Housing for women undergoing medically assisted treatment to support their sobriety

To qualify for a Maggie’s Place home, a mother must be:

Willing to live in community
Homeless and pregnant
Age 18 or older
Free from immediate physical danger
Without other children in her immediate care
